FACTS ABOUT WINTHROP'S HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY PROGRAM
1. Winthrop's HCM Program on Long Island is the only program recognized by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA). This is a testament to the program's proven track record and commitment to a team approach to patient care, including lifestyle modification, medications and advanced imaging, surgical or interventional techniques aimed specifically at the HCM patient.
2. Dr. Naidu is the only Interventional Cardiologist on Long Island with specialized expertise and a large experience in performing Alcohol Septal Ablation (> 50 successful procedures to date). In fact, no other interventional cardiologist on Long Island has performed over 20 procedures, the number recommended by national guidelines for credentialing.
3. Winthrop's HCM program takes care of more patients with HCM than any other hospital on Long Island, and is the second largest in the Tri-State Area. We now follow over 250 patients and families with this disease, serving patients from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, as well as states as far off as Arizona and Florida.
4. Dr. Naidu is the only nationally-recognized leader in HCM diagnosis and treatment on Long Island, and lectures widely on this disease throughout the United States. He was one of 13 invited authors to write the national American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association 2011 HCM Guidelines (see below), the first document to set national standards for HCM treatment.
5. Winthrop's HCM Program on Long Island sponsors an annual patient-centered Conference, to help educate patients on the details of HCM and allow our patients to meet one another.

HISTORY AND DETAILS OF THE HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY PROGRAM
A nationally-recognized expert in the management of patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Dr. Naidu runs the only comprehensive, multi-disciplinary Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center on Long Island, and one of only two in New York State, deemed a Center of Excellence by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA). The Center treats well over 250 patients and families from the tri-state area and beyond with this rare genetic disease, offering a multitude of services including genetic testing, echocardiogram, holter monitor, stress testing, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, and advanced imaging (including MRI and CT), in addition to advanced interventional techniques such as alcohol septal ablation.
Driven by his unique expertise with alcohol septal ablation, a minimally-invasive alternative to open heart surgery, Dr. Naidu was selected to represent the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention (SCAI) on the 2011 American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology Guideline Writing Committee for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. The document, the first of its kind for this disease, has set the national and international standards on how to manage this complex disease process. Consistent with these guidelines, Dr. Naidu is the only interventional cardiologist on Long Island who has successfully performed the required number of alcohol septal ablations to be deemed an expert in this technique.

Dr. Naidu is passionate about taking care of patients and families with this life-long disease, and works closely with the rest of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy team, including Dr. Carlos Montoya (pediatric cardiology), Drs. Joseph Germano and Todd Cohen (electrophysiology), Drs. Gerald Cohen and George Gubernikoff (advanced imaging), Dr. Juan Gaztanaga (cardiac MRI), and Dr. Scott Schubach (cardiothoracic surgery). Office consultations include a detailed patient history and review of all pertinent studies, followed by extensive and ongoing discussion regarding the disease process, so that all patients fully understand their individual disease pattern and the options available to control symptoms and progression of disease, and become true partners in the treatment of their disease.
In addition to accommodating all patients in his Center, he hosts a patient-centered Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Symposium on Long Island, and encourages patients to participate in the National HCM Association Symposium in New Jersey, for which he serves as an invited speaker. Dr. Naidu also lectures about this diease in general and alcohol septal ablation in particular as invited speaker every year for the American College of Cardiology (ACC), Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), and Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) national and international conferences. On a case by case basis, he has also proctors other physicians in the technique throughout the United States, and is available for review of outside studies.
